I just returned home from New York tonight. i was there doing our New York Showcase. it went well- I sang Back to Before from Ragtime. I went and saw Mary Poppins, Wicked, and 9 to 5. wow

Sometimes I feel like I can't accomplish all that I have ahead of me. Sometimes it seems ridiculous to think I could finish my projects, assignments, paper, or tests. But the minutes turn to hours and the hours turn to days and time moves on. It's just another day. It passes whether I accomplish things or not. It's all about choices and decisions about how I will spend my time. I'm not saying I'm good at it but I guess I recognize the need, the drive, the desire to finish in a timely fashion. But I don't want to just finish! I want to finish well! But I suppose there's no use in stressing about it because the deadline will inevitably come.

Hi

I was walking home from class and this guy said hi to me as he was passing me- I responded in a delayed fashion. Then another guy was walking towards me and I averted my eyes- I didn't say hello. After that I decided that if a complete stranger could say hi to me and make me feel good then I could do the same. So, for the rest of the walk I smiled and said hello to everyone that I passed- they responded kindly - I felt like I paid it forward, you know? just a little thing can make a difference right?

What continued

ok this just keeps happening...random conversations that I catch...I was walking up to campus and passed a guy who was on a cell phone. He stated, "Can I tell you something about you that annoys me if you promise not to get mad? " alright who is actually going to want to say yes to that? - but you can be certain that the person on the other end of the line would have agreed because their curiosity would have gotten the better of them. or they really wanted to know what they could do better in the relationship? ...I have no idea because again I didn't hear the rest and I don't know who he was talking to... random random random-

What???

You know when you catch a sentence of someone who is on the phone or in the middle of a conversation and that one sentence is all you hear- You hear one sentence in passing and wonder what could have been prior for the response to occur or their personal history and story- well that happened to me today. A girl, who was on the phone said, "Um Melissa you are too young to be drinking alcohol" And that was all I heard. So questions start to fly, who is Melissa? is it your sister? your friend, cousin,- is she a member of the church- are you? are you a convert and the rest of your family doesn't approve of your life choices? what is the relationship? how would your words of reprimanding help? is what you are saying falling on deaf ears- now I will never see that girl again so I will never be able to ask her- but I do love a good story and it would have been fun to hear this one...

A song-

I sat down on the piano bench and put my hands to the keys- I felt the smooth touch of the wood of the bench as I readjusted how far back it was. I opened the Les Mis. book. I looked up at my father's excited face and began to play Bring Him Home- his voice was sweet and strong. As we finished Serena and Thomas came into the living room making opera gestures and joined in the singing. I love my family. I love that they will laugh with me, encourage me, and most importantly love me.

Jer3miah

I just watched a little short video series on the interent. It's title is the book of jer3miah. You can visit it at http://www.jer3miah.com/. At first I couldn't figure out why I was so enthralled by it. But I think because each clip is only about 4 minutes long, it doesn't allow you to get bored with the story. It's always moving forward. ok this is a really bad metaphor but it's sort of like 24(the tv series)- I used to watch that and at the end of the episode it would have something that caught my attention and held my suspense. I couldn't wait to watch the next episode and I would find my mind drifting back to during the week. That's how I kind of feel about this little jer3miah series. I hope they keep it up!

A Little Miracle

I was walking to class and I was running late for my voice lesson. But as I was walking through the parking lot I felt my shoe snap. I looked down at the broken shoe. I took it off and started hobbling with on shoe on and shoe off. They were 3 inch heels so that meant I looked quite silly walking to class. I arrived at my voice lesson before my teacher and as I walked in I reported that I had broken my shoe. She looked at me and said that Marylynn was upstairs and I should go ask her if she could fix it. (Marylynn is the costumer for the Young Ambassadors - a group I used to be a part of- so she knew me well) I thought that Marylynn was on ten day tour with the rest of the Young Ambassadors but she was still here.
I knocked on the costume shop door and she opened it with a smile. I held up my broken shoe and said ,in a kid voice telling their mother they had done something wrong, "I broke my shoe." She laughed and started pulled out some thread to fix the strap. She then asked what size I was and then asked me to follow her to the back. I had no idea why we were heading back towards all the costumes. She looked at a stack of boxes and said, "9 1/2" and handed me the box.
I responded, "Wait- what? Are you sure?"
She said, "Well what am I going to do with them?"
You have to understand that I was wearing a pair of shoes that I had worn for Young Ambassador Firesides and I guess they had a few pairs left over that never got returned. That was from last year so I had to agree with her- they were only going to sit there in that closet. So I took the box and gave her a grateful hug. I walked down the stairs- placed my old shoes in the box - and threw them in the trash.
I went back to Gayle, my voice teacher, and she seemed happy for me. Gayle said that she never takes that route to class, but because she did, she saw Marylynn.
When things like that happen I can't just count that a coincidence. I think the Lord has a handle on what is going on in our lives and sometimes gives us little miracles. Maybe that way we learn to appreciate Heavenly Father in our daily lives.

"Moving" - My very first post

This is my first blog! I thought that I would post a poem I wrote a while ago as my first endeavor to "blog" I know that people have been doing this for years but it never really appealed to me. I guess until now I didn't mind the pictures on facebook to be what people knew about me. Now, after one of my classes- I want to say more- more about myself my inner thoughts and who I am deep down. I guess I want to be heard in a different way.

Moving
In constant motion we move
Set to improve
Stepping in time and space
In this ridiculous race
The winner’s behind
The loser’s ahead
It’s hard to know what will be said
A pitied dream
A horrid scream
Sunlight waits to be seen
A darkened room
A clouded boom

A moment of silence left for saddened ears
Monstrous dragons await to fear
To stop a beating heart
All one has to do is start
Start to run from the dreams, the nightmares, the screams
It’s all make believe it seems

The face belies the truth it holds
And hardly a soul is sold
Onto the lie that is forward fly
Awaiting the one who follows the sky

A turned face and a click of a light
Suddenly one loses sight
But the eyes adjust and the path is clear
And then there’s nothing left but to steer
